Extremely Rare Raiding Support Regiment Cap badge

Formed at Azzib, Palestine, in October 1943, and disbanded in 1945, the Raiding Support Regiment was intended to support commando raiding forces and bring heavy weapons to the aid of partisans in Greece, Albania and Yugoslavia, increasing the harassment of German Forces in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans in order to prevent them from being withdrawn and used as reinforcements against the Allied invasion of North West Europe.

It’s ranks were trained parachutists and wore SAS Wings. They were organised into a headquarters and five batteries:

A - Machine-gun battery of Vickers and captured Spandau medium machine-guns
B - Mortar battery of heavy mortars
C - Light anti-aircraft battery of Browning heavy machine guns
D - Anti-tank battery of Italian 47 / 32mm anti-tank guns
E - Mountain battery of US M8 75mm Pack Howitzers.

The unit ultimately saw action in the Dalmatian Islands, Yugoslavia, Greece and Albania.

It's unique badge is one of the most rare and coveted items of WWII British Special Forces insignia. This rare example was clearly worn under service conditions and attractively retains subtle evidence of original owner having "bulled" the highlights, a common practice intended to smarten up the appearance of such cloth insignia. I'm not sure I won't regret parting with this superb badge.
