Superb Grenadier Guards 1st Infantry Division Battledress

An extremely rare Guards BD. Retaining its original insignia, that of a sergeant of the 3rd Battalion, part of the Guards Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. It is in worn condition with light moth nipping and was clearly a field-service rather than a walking-out uniform. The original owner's name can be seen inscribed inside, it appears to read Whitmore. In all an extremely rare and desirable Guards BD. The trousers which came with this blouse are listed separately.

During World War II the 1st Infantry Division served in France until June 1940. In 1943 it fought in North Africa during the Tunisia Campaign as part of the British First Army and then was in Italy for 1944 including Operation Shingle, the Anzio landing, from January to May.
