Extremely rare WWII Z Special Unit Medal Group with OSS Stiletto

A unique and extensive Second World War special forces medals, documents, insignia and fighting knife group. Pertaining to 2389821 Sergeant Robert James Moyes, Royal Signals, who served from 1942 until 1946. A summary of his service forms part of the group and reads as follows:

"Joined at Catterick 8/4/42
Royal Signals, No 1 Light Section SOE
Trained at Half Moon Lane (at some time)
Trained with US Forces Spring 1944
Sailed to France 10/6/44
At Bayeux 26/7/44
Was present at surrender of Caen
Was on Allied side of ground at Arnhem, in contact with Dutch Resistance.
Returned to UK 22nd Sept.
Departed for Sydney, Australia on SS Athlone Castle on 26 Dec 1944.
Joined Z Special Unit of AI Bureau (Services Reconnaissance Dept)
Posted to Forward Base, Labuan, NW Borneo..."

The extensive archive of documents forming part of the group support much of these movements and includes a permission to proceed to Bayeux in July of 1944 grated by OC1 Special Forces Detachment. In Moyes' Australian Military Forces personal papers he is photographed wearing the rare "Gt Britain" slip-on shoulder titles also included. Further documents from this period refer to the Allied Intelligence Bureau and Special Reconnaissance Department (Australia's SOE), and Z Special Unit. One document bears signatures of the crew of the HMAS Tiger Snake, a Snake class junk used by SRD operatives on covert operations. In this document Moyes is described as OC Party. His Service and Release papers describe Moyes thus: "during the last twelve months has had charge of a special recce section". A particular highlight of the group is the OSS variant FS fighting knife as manufactured by Landers, Frary and Clarke and featuring their distinctive "pancake flipper" scabbard. All such knives are extremely rare, this one, having been used by a British / Z Special Unit soldier, is likely unique. Also included with the group is correspondence from a Canadian Chinese member of Z Special Unit, a friend and comrade of Moyes, who was awarded the Military Medal for services in the Far East. In all a quite astonishing group.
